Former professional footballer Horst Heldt has been Managing Director of Men's Professional Football at 1. FC Union Berlin since 1 July 2024. Heldt has decades of experience in leading positions in the Bundesliga. His career is characterized by sporting expertise, strategic thinking and a deep understanding of squad planning. Before joining Union, he worked at 1. FC Köln from 2019 to 2021, after holding responsibility as manager at Hannover 96 (2017-2019). As Head of Sport, he won the DFB Cup with Schalke 04 in 2011, and as Sports Director he led VfB Stuttgart to the championship in 2007. His playing career began at 1. FC Köln and led him to VfB via 1860 Munich, Eintracht Frankfurt and Sturm Graz. He played over 350 Bundesliga matches and two international matches.
